Rodrigo narrowly misses out on podium, bitter comeback for Alcoba

24 Aug 2020

Gabriel Rodrigo scores the best result of his 2020 season so far by finishing fourth in the Grand Prix of Styria, which represents an important confidence boost for himself and the whole Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3, after yesterday’s pole position and today’s 13 points.

The Argentine rider, who looked extremely strong in the early part of the race when he even tried to pull away from the pack along with Arbolino, had to surrender to the comeback by Vietti and Ogura in the final stages, despite trying all he could to seal the podium up to the final corner. With this fourth place, Rodrigo moves up a couple of places in the standings and he is now eighth and 58 points away from Arenas.

Jeremy Alcoba had a flamboyant race after starting from 14th place. The Spanish rider did well in leading the second group of riders and almost managed to bridge the gap with the front runners. But with ten laps left, he made a mistake at turn three, an ‘innocuous’ low-side crash aside from the affected mood of the rider.
